By now you may have noticed a fluorescent jacketed, snaking line of children walking too and from the village via Briar Hill each school day come rain or shine.

The Walking Bus began in March and has a trained parent 'driver' at the front and a 'conductor' at the back, all 'passengers' wear high visibility jacket which does cause car drivers to slow down, something we all welcome especially those who have had arms and bags clipped by wing mirrors when walking down Briar Hill and through the Village.

The County Council initiative encourages the children to take exercise, promotes road safety awareness and should ultimately reduce the number of cars parking in the village.

Your support, and encouragement if you see us, of our new scheme will be warmly welcomed.

The Walking Bus Team.

During the winter months we have been busy addressing the traffic issues which were the topic of many conversations last summer.
Last month we finally completed a thorough "School Travel Plan."

Contributions for this plan have come from staff, children , parents, Parish council representatives, trustees, the police, road safety officers and the Local Authority School Travel Plan manager.
The document passed quality control and is now published on our school website which can be found at www.ccschool.co.uk

The plan sets out numerous target areas which are aimed at reducing congestion in the village. This process will obviously take time but we have already undertaken a number of measures which are aimed at helping the situation. Many parents are already car sharing. Others are trying the "park and stride" approach by walking from locations such as the village hall.

On Monday 13th March our latest strategy will begin.
We have worked with road safety officers to set up a "Walking Bus" which will enable a group of children to walk each day to and from a starting point in Briar Hill, supervised by parent volunteers.

If this walking bus is successful we will set up a second walking bus from Rowberry's nursery in the summer.

Proposals for "Catchment Area Review" are currently published for public consultation as the latest phase of the Wyre Forest Review with feedback due to the Local Authority by 7th April.
Essentially the recommendation is that the new Chaddesley Corbett Primary School will take on the existing Stone First School catchment area.
